Obituary for David C. Allen

David Charles Allen was born on September 29, 1967 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Charles R. Allen and the late Cynthia P. Allen.
David attended Proviso East High School in Maywood, Illinois, and graduated in 1985. Following high school, David attended Triton College in River Grove, Illinois, for a short time, then joined the United States Navy, where he served for four years. While serving in the Navy, he received a 2nd Sea Service Ribbon, Battle E Ribbon, a 1st Good Conduct ribbon, and a Humanitarian Service Medal.
David accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age, and was baptized into the Christian faith at West Point Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois.
David resided in Maywood, where he coached Pop Warner Football for the Maywood Buccaneers for several years. In Maywood is where he met and married his loving wife, LaVerne, on August 15, 2009 at Holy Corinthian M.B. Church. In July of 2012, they relocated to Michigan City, Indiana.
David always dreamed of becoming a truck driver. He achieved that goal, and drove over-the-road for Swift Transportation Company until the time of his death.
To his family, David was a faithful husband, grateful son, devoted father, loving brother, and an affectionate grandfather. To other relatives, neighbors, friends, and all who knew him, he was a heart full of love, service and sacrifice. He was never too busy nor too tired to help someone in need.
David made his transition from this life to his eternal home on Monday, April 3, 2017 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 8 years, LaVerne Allen; his father, Charles Allen; three stepdaughters, Lynda Rogers, LaKendra McKnight, Tempess (Herbert) Williams; two stepsons, Jontae Rogers, Randolph (Courtney) Mays; seven grandchildren, Shantoria Williams, Shanyia Williams, Shawn Williams, Shalyn Williams, Angelo Parker, Jr., Darrell Gibson, Jr., Eva Sanders; one sister, Terra (Jammie) Pringle; one brother, Matt (China) Tucker; three sisters-in-law, Angela (Charles) Rogers Todd, Vivian Rogers, and Maggie Farrell; two brothers-in-law, Donald Rogers and Ronald Rogers; three nephews, Jamie Pringle, Justin Pringle, and Jaden Pringle; two special cousins, Latanya Chestnut (Nikki), and John Brown (Petey) and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
